Shaded side wall for Cabanas

UPDATE 9 OF NOVEMBER 2024.

Well - we tried. we really did.. We found a number of options that were ... "OKAY"... but - they end up being quite expense with limited functionality..

We were trying to do this for around $49.95 inc deliver inc GST.. But - delivery is easily $15 - $20 for the size / weight of the product. 

Aussie Dollar is a killer. 

Tried to get it made in Australia and couldn't find anyone to take on the brief!! ugggh.

Ultimately - we've run out of time on this one and there are a few products already in the market which are okay as well.

..

It is bugging us to not be able to do this so easily. So - we will one day find a good solution for this and do it at scale.

The feeling is it will be more of a $99 product. But - we'll make it really functional with a curtain style option that packs a way well.

...

I guess this just means more time at the beach this summer to do some prototyping.

UPDATE!!! 12 July 2024

Okay, we've been hammered enough to make this shade wall happen :-)

We're working on new designs which will have sandbags at the bottom so it doesn't effect the structure of the cabana on windy days.

There's nothing on the market that does this overly well and doesn't look UGLY ;-) so - it will take a bit of time - BUT! We hope to have this ready for Australian summer along with a few other little new things we've been working on to kit out your Cabana set up.

 Well... If you've made it here - you were just like the team at Holey Mats that wanted to find something to help solve the problem of Cabana's not providing enough shade during early - mid morning and mid to late afternoon.

We did conquer it with our "shaded side wall"... and we're generally happy with it. But.. it's still not quite perfect and we've found it hard to find anything else that really fits the bill as below and doesn't cause issues in heavy wind.

With this in mind - we're not going to continue to source this product (for now). If someone does, let us know and we'll happily link you on here.

We are also putting our holey innovation to good use as we have had a number of people asking us about creating additional accessories such as a side wall for shade to help make our Holey Mats even more comfortable when using them with a Cool Cabana.

Where to buy Cool Cabana shade side salls?

There currently aren't any specific attachments that we've seen in the market to create a shaded side wall available from Cool Cabanas.

The perfect side wall to fit a Cool Cabana!

Our current cabana side wall designs will fit both the large Cool Cabanas and Medium size. They will be 2m high (just high enough to attach to the top poles and just low enough to be anchored under the sand poles) and 3 metres wide.

Key features of our new cabana holey side wall:

- It has airflow holes (What do you expect!! We are a company who does love it's holey mats :-)

- Material can be bunched to one side to make a nice "curtain" affect

- Light enough to leave on the Cabana so you don't have to keep de-attaching later

- You can see through it so the kids can be in the surf and you can keep an eye on them

- Doesn't create a HOT BOX effect by having a hard or opaque wall

- Takes about 25 - 30% heat out of the space

- Looks good and good enough that everyone who see's it will be like - yeah - I need one of those - where did you get it ;-)

- Lets just enough light through so you don't feel like you're in side - but - enough to stop glare  

UPDATES (AS OF 9th JAN 2023):

We've now tried a number of materials with limited success.

1. The "shade cloth" with lots of small air holes.

This ballooned way too much and created an unstable space.

2. The light weight sail with flaps in it

 

This was definitely better but would need a lot more flaps in it. But we think it will still balloon too much and pull the Cabana over too far.

 

3. The "Snow" army style camo netting.

UPDATE AS OF 2nd FEB 2023:

We have received and tested the production level shade / light diffuser walls and "ballooning" effect with the new camo style material and it's looking good. The shade is just enough and the weight of the material is nice and light to stop of from blowing and ballooning.

 

Please tell us what you think below of these style, noting it's near impossible without making something that will blow the whole cabana over in the wind if more shade / walled material is used :-)
